Northern Health is seeking a BoardCertified Adult Psychiatrist to join our collaborative mental health team in Terrace, BC, a vibrant community in northwest Canada known for its exceptional outdoor recreation, affordable lifestyle, and welcoming medical community.

Position Overview
Join a collaborative community mental health team providing comprehensive adult psychiatric care. In this role, you will work closely with family physicians and interdisciplinary mental health professionals, contributing to the full continuum of regional services. Responsibilities include:
- Adult psychiatric assessment and treatment planning
Ongoing patientcentred consultation for community providers
Education and clinical support to family physicians and mental health teams
Participation in areabased services, including assessments in the regional hospital’s observation unit
You will join three psychiatrists as part of the Intensive Care Management Team, supported by skilled nursing and allied health colleagues.
Hospital Setting: Ksyen Regional Hospital
Terrace is served by Ksyen Regional Hospital, an 82bed acute care facility opened in 2024. The hospital includes:
- A 20bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit, providing acute stabilization, crisis consultation, medication management, and interdisciplinary case management (inpatient psychiatry is voluntary and involuntary under provincial mental health legislation).
- Four operating rooms, a trauma bay, critical care beds, cardiac diagnostics, emergency services, and advanced medical imaging technologies (MRI, CT, SPECTCT).

Licensure & Immigration (U.S. Applicants)
Most U.S.trained psychiatrists are eligible for licensure in British Columbia through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) via a streamlined pathway for American Boardcertified specialists. Immigration pathways (e.g., work permit, permanent residency) are wellestablished for physicians and Northern Health provides support throughout the process.
Compensation
In British Columbia, physicians are independent contractors (not employees) and are compensated through the provincial Medical Services Plan (MSP). Psychiatrists typically bill feeforservice and sessional fees; Northern Health staff can provide details tailored to your preferred model.
