A Rare Opportunity to Help Design the Future of Mental Health Care
Cowichan District Hospital is preparing to open a brand-new hospital in 2027. The new facility will include expanded psychiatric services featuring:
A dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Zone embedded within the Emergency Department
A Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
A 20-bed inpatient psychiatry unit
Enhanced integration between hospital and community-based mental health services
Incoming psychiatrists will have the opportunity to contribute to the development, growth and innovation of psychiatric services within a modern, state-of-the-art healthcare campus.

Psychiatrists in Cowichan work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary model alongside:
