Porter-Starke Services is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community health center with offices in Valparaiso, Portage and Knox, Indiana, Porter-Starke Services is a licensed community mental health center through the Indiana Division of Mental Health & Addictions and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. We are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. We offer a full continuum of care for adults, families, adolescents, and children with mental health or substance abuse issues. We treat all clients on individual plans of care, tailored to specific needs.

Best Practice Honors
American Psychological Association
Awarded annually in Washington, DC, by the American Psychological Association, Porter-Starke Services was one of three organizations nationwide to receive Best Practices recognition, specifically for its work to forward their vision of inspiring people to advance the health, balance and hope of the community, through The Inspiration Project. The project, based on the This I Believe writing model, invites people to share a story from their own life that illustrates their core values or beliefs.
As a previous winner of the Indiana Psychological Association’s state-level “Psychologically healthy Workplace Award,” Porter-Starke Services was qualified to be nominated for APA’s national Best Practice Honors.

This state-level award recognizes employers that promote employee involvement, work-life balance, employee growth and development, health and safety and employee recognition. According to the Indiana Psychological Association, the local division of the American Psychological Association, Porter-Starke Services was recognized for its comprehensive and innovative approach to employee engagement and health through the company’s policies and procedures, which included the establishment of a Wellness@Work rewards program, development of a Leadership Academy with Purdue University North Central, establishment of Fitness Fridays, provision of various health screenings, implementation of Breakfast with Leadership, The Inspiration Project, and hosting the annual Valparaiso Turkey Trot.

Outstanding Nonprofit Organization Award
Porter County Community Foundation
Awarded annually by the Porter County Community Foundation, this award recognized Porter-Starke Services and Housing Opportunities for their collaboration addressing homelessness in our community. Both organizations played important roles in the reopening of Spring Valley Shelter, a needed housing resource in Valparaiso, IN.

Special Project Exemplary Award
Indiana Primary Healthcare Association
Porter-Starke Services and HealthLinc were honored for their local leadership in healthcare integration, utilizing a behavioral specialist at healthcare visits. The award was received for expanding primary healthcare services at Porter-Starke Services, a process that has shown positive preliminary effects on the medical indicators, emotional well-being and lifestyle of our clients.
